The Handstand

This course gives all yogis the opportunity to learn, practice and refine the handstand in a class environment.

Handstand requires a skill set and dedication that requires deep focus and attention over time. You will leave with the resources to integrate this pose into your flow and bring home to your personal practice.

The only way you learn handstand is by practicing handstand. Each week we will look at different techniques and drills to strengthen the body, allowing you to find the handstand with confidence and remove the 'hit and hope' mentality. The course can be attended as a course or individual classes, as each will have different themes.

The Yoga & Ayurveda Series- Summer

Summer: Cooling and Calming Practices to Balance Stress and Cultivate Peace

At the summer solstice when the light and nature’s growth peaks for the year, this workshop turns to Yoga and Ayurveda practices aimed at helping us to celebrate our winter and spring labours and relax, destress and surrender to the longer days and warmer temperatures of summer. Two softening, calming, lunar yoga practices are weaved with Ayurveda’s tips to stay cool and centred both in moments when we can “overheat”during the months when the fire element dominates, and whenever we feel the stress or intensity rising in our lives.  Particularly suited to balancing those of us of a fierier/pitta constitution, these practices will help cultivate more compassion and peace for all by invoking the qualities of the balancing ether, water and earth elements.  End this workshop with a summer inspired lunch based on Ayurvedic principles.

In a series of seasonal workshops with Kate Smith Jamison (www.theyogaandayurvedaclinic.com) delve into the ancient practice of Ayurveda, the holistic healing science for the body –sister to Yoga’s healing science for the mind. Meaning science (veda) of life (ayur) Ayurveda takes a personalised, preventative approach to optimal health and longevity in harmony with nature’s pulse.

During each four-hour workshop, discover how to add seasonal rhythm to your yogasana, pranayama and meditation practices, and gain a better understanding of your own unique constitution. Learn how to follow the flow of nature, and weave diet and lifestyle principles throughout the year to live a healthier –and consequently happier - life. Understand better the elemental shifts in the seasons and the imbalances they may bring, smoothing your transition from season to season.

A £40 investment for each workshop includes ending with delicious food based on Ayurvedic principles

Kundalini in Holywood

Kundalini yoga is often referred to as the ‘yoga of awareness’ – it works quickly to give you grace, balance and most of all the ability to remain calm, centred and clear through life’s challenges.

Kundalini yoga's power comes from the “coiled serpent” which is located around the sacrum or “sacred bone” at the base of the spine. This 'coiled serpent' is a metaphor for the enormous reserve of untapped potential within each of us. In this workshop you will use proven kundalini techniques to gradually awaken this benign serpent and safely deploy its amazing beneficial powers, tapping into this potential to achieve health, happiness and harmony in your life. Through various practices including physical postures, meditation and chanting you will enjoy an elevation in consciousness, promotion of physical well-being and an expansion of awareness. This workshop is open to all levels including beginners.

The workshop will end with a gong bath delivered by Alan Shiels.

Joe has been practising yoga in Greater Belfast for 20 years and has a keen interest in wellbeing and spirituality. He is committed to helping people become their best selves. Joe qualified as a hatha yoga teacher in 2005 and as a kundalini yoga teacher in 2009 and has been teaching in Belfast and North Down since 2010.
