Autumn: Yoga & Ayurveda practices to stay steady in times of change

As autumn approaches it brings with it not only cooler temperatures and shorter days, but after the heat of summer also a dry, lightness, best visualised in leaves falling from trees as nature’s cycle reaches completion. We are also affected by the very same elements and combined with the back-to-school vibes, these shifting sensations can leave us feeling ungrounded and perhaps dealing with imbalances like anxiety, insomnia, difficult elimination and lower back pain. In Ayurveda, all of these are associated with autumn’s dominant Vata dosha.

This workshop’s two grounding yoga practices weaved with Ayurvedic wisdom will aim to help alleviate these types of imbalances, to stay steady and radiant in the face of change or uncertainty, as well as encouraging us to slow down, reflect and nourish ourselves as we head towards the winter. The workshop will end with a warming lunch based on Ayurvedic principles.

In this series of seasonal workshops with Kate Smith Jamison (www.theyogaandayurvedaclinic.com) delve into the ancient practice of Ayurveda, the holistic healing science for the body – sister to Yoga’s healing science for the mind. Meaning science (Veda) of life (Ayur) Ayurveda takes a personalised, preventative approach to optimal health and longevity in harmony with nature’s pulse.

Chocolate Shamanic Yoga - Hucha

Chocolate Shamanic Yoga - Hucha

Hucha - (pronounced “hoocha”) is what’s know in the Andean tradition as heavy, condensed or slowed down energy. It’s one of the two energies that form our Kawsay Pacha - the world of “living energy”. The other energy is Sami - refined, abundant, cosmic light energy.

We are living in high energy times of fast-paced media and advertising constantly peppering our minds with geological, political and social chaos. Subconsciously we are taking this all in on many levels - physically, mentally and emotionally. But how are we managing this bombardment? Are we dealing with it at all? Many of us are feeling the affects of heightened anxiety & stress reflected in social unrest, repressed anger, frustration, injustices - or “Hucha”!

This workshop will focus on practicing ways to reduce the amount of Hucha and increase the amount of Sami to find the balance of the two energies and achieve coherence in mind and body.

… And of course there will be Helena’s special homemade Cacao love bombs to assuage your fears and help with the flow!

“People will do anything, no matter how absurd, in order to avoid facing their own souls. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious.” ― Carl Jung

Kundalini Yoga Workshop and Gong Bath

Kundalini Yoga Workshop and Gong Bath

Saturday 28th September

3-5pm

Holywood

'There’s a voice that doesn’t use words - listen’ (Rumi)

Kundalini Yoga is often referred to as the ‘yoga of awareness.' It is an avenue to self-experience and expansion. This Kundalini workshop will include breathing techniques scientifically proven to reduce anxiety, held stretches, mudra (hand positions), and mantra (meditation utilizing the repetition of sound). Cultivate your resilience using the time tested tools of Kundalini Yoga. Sweat, laugh, breathe and deeply relax during the gong bath.

Many civilizations of the world have used the gong for ceremonies, rituals and inner journeys. The ancient yogis recognized the gong as a divine agent of expansion and used it as a meditation tool. Through its resonance we can heal, gain clarity and insight, remember who we really are and return to our true state of Oneness.

Joe has been practising yoga in Greater Belfast for almost 20 years and has a keen interest in wellbeing and spirituality. He qualified as a hatha yoga teacher in 2005 and as a kundalini yoga teacher in 2009 and has been teaching in Belfast and North Down since 2010.

Mobility Flow Inversions

Saturday 31 August

2-4pm

Hill Street

This workshop will blend mobility and Vinyasa Flow yoga, steering towards optional playful inversions. It encompasses Mark's passion for movement and wellness practices, as he has introduced more lighthearted mobility maintenance techniques into his yoga classes in recent years.

This approach allows students to actively increase their range of motion and overall strength. Improved motor control and awakened muscles and joints make for a mindful and complimentary inversion practice, while mobility usually targets restricted muscle tissue. If you live with limited movement patterns or have hard to reach knots or niggles, this is the workshop for you.

Explore the Madhya

Explore the Madhya

Explore the Madyha

Madhya in Sanskrit means ‘the middle’ or ‘the space in between.'

Join Eleanor Steane and Rodger Montgomery (The Sometime) for a unique practice to explore the subtle points of stillness that exist between our breaths, thoughts, movements and postures. By taking time to pause we naturally become more aware, allowing us to discover how to deepen more fully into quiet softness and enjoy the peace that arises.

In life and in practice we tend to bypass the moments to embrace stillness in favour of doing, achieving and attaining. This practice will provide a contemplative experience in which to dive in, cultivate new ways of being and rest in the spaces in between.

The musical curation will be inspired by the Madhya, with warm, welcoming and meditative sounds to support your practice and nourish these moments of finding yourself.

Kundalini in Holywood

Kundalini yoga is often referred to as the ‘yoga of awareness’ – it works quickly to give you grace, balance and most of all the ability to remain calm, centred and clear through life’s challenges.

Kundalini yoga's power comes from the “coiled serpent” which is located around the sacrum or “sacred bone” at the base of the spine. This 'coiled serpent' is a metaphor for the enormous reserve of untapped potential within each of us. In this workshop you will use proven kundalini techniques to gradually awaken this benign serpent and safely deploy its amazing beneficial powers, tapping into this potential to achieve health, happiness and harmony in your life. Through various practices including physical postures, meditation and chanting you will enjoy an elevation in consciousness, promotion of physical well-being and an expansion of awareness. This workshop is open to all levels including beginners.

The workshop will end with a gong bath delivered by Alan Shiels.

Joe has been practising yoga in Greater Belfast for 20 years and has a keen interest in wellbeing and spirituality. He is committed to helping people become their best selves. Joe qualified as a hatha yoga teacher in 2005 and as a kundalini yoga teacher in 2009 and has been teaching in Belfast and North Down since 2010.
