A Journey Beyond the Senses

Our first perception of life begins in the womb (from as early as 8 weeks), with the development of the sense of touch. The senses are our link between the outside world and our inside world - our body to the mind. They give form, flavour, sound, scent and contrast - giving perspective. Without them we would have no perspective of who we are, what we are doing and where we are going.

In this workshop we will stimulate the senses one by one using the practice of Pratyahara to go into and beyond the sensory world invoking deeper wisdom and higher state of consciousness through:

Taste - rousing our tastebuds with raw cacao “Love Bombs” (see below*)

Smell - breathing in natural scents and incense

Touch - feeling the external world meet our internal world with an elemental flow practice

Sight - using drishti points to focus our attention to one spot

Sound - ambient vibes and drumming that will draw us into a shamanic journey

*Raw cacao contains Theobromine, which is a naturally occurring compound found in cacao plants and tea leaves. Named after the scientific name of cacao trees, Theobroma Cacao, scientists found it had similar stimulation and heart effects to caffeine. It originated in the tropical rainforests of the Americas in times of the Mayan and Aztec civilizations and was considered a “food of the gods,” “theo” meaning god and “broma” meaning food.

Theobromine primarily functions to improve your circulatory, respiratory, and excretory system. Much like caffeine, theobromine is a diuretic; however it mainly acts as a smooth muscle relaxant and cardiac stimulant.

Precautionary note: Helena will be burning Palo Santo as one of the scents, this could cause respiratory problems if you have breathing issues. Also, some of the cacao bombs may contain nuts. Cacao raises the heart rate by up to 6 to 7 beats per minute and can increase blood flow to the brain by up to 40%, if you are prone to migraines, please consult Helena before booking -helena@flow.yoga
